The Challenge

Phoenix Children’s has grown into one of the nation’s largest pediatric health systems, providing world-class health care to children and families in Arizona for more than 35 years.

As part of the Children’s Miracle Network, Phoenix Children’s offers many ways to get involved in and support this important work.

After a brand refresh, Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation needed a website to help them achieve the full potential for their multi-million dollar donation goals.

The site had to include ways for people to donate, a robust event calendar, and showcase inspiring stories from donors and patients.

The Solution

Structure the website in a way that made navigation intuitive and easy to use.

With a wide array of key user groups, the new site had to be structured in a way that made navigation intuitive and easy. The design needed to be exciting and dynamic, but speedy and not get bogged down by the large amount of content. 

We conducted interviews with key stakeholders across their departments to discover what was and wasn’t working with the current website. We found that many users had difficulty navigating the site, and useful pages weren’t being visited as often as expected

The Results

In our content audit, we discovered a large number of orphan pages. We overhauled the structure and developed a simplified navigation menu that allowed users to quickly and clearly see where they needed to go.

The new design takes advantage of the client’s abundant image resources, putting the children and families front and center as heroes in the story. 

The website now allows users to quickly find Ways to Give, Events, or Stories without overwhelming them with a cluttered home page.
The main menu operates as a full-screen site map, allowing users to get a good idea of where they need to go.
